Don't Keep It a Secret ~ CCAP's Learn to Earn Program Is Coming to Pawtucket

With funding from the Workforce Partnership of Greater RI, CCAP is pleased to announce the opening of a new Youth Center in the netWORKri One Stop at 175 Main Street in Pawtucket.

We have also partnered with the Woodlawn Community Development Corporation and will offer additional programs and services at the Woodlawn CDC located at 210 West Avenue in Pawtucket.

The program will provide year-round services to all youth ages 14-21. While the program will outreach to youth in the Pawtucket, Central Falls and northern RI communities, the program is open to all youth living in all RI cities and towns except Providence and Cranston. Our Providence/Cranston Youth Center serves these youngsters.

The Pawtucket Youth Center will offer programs and services for youth still in school, for youth who have completed high school and are looking to improve their job skills or youth that have dropped out of school and would like to get their GED.

CCAP and Woodlawn staff will provide a full range of services to meet the short and long term academic and workforce needs of youth.

Services include:

  • Outreach and recruitment
  • Intake, academic and vocational assessment
  • Academic support
  • Pre GED & GED
  • Case management and supportive social services
  • Occupational skills training
  • Work experience and career exploration
  • Job skills development
  • Life skills and leadership development
  • Summer youth employment (2008)
  • Adult mentoring
  • Supportive social services
  • Information, referral and follow-up

Partnerships - The Key to Success

CCAP recognizes that no single organization can meet all the needs of youth. In developing the Pawtucket program, we are fortunate to have formed a partnership with the Woodlawn Community Development Corporation. The mission of the Woodlawn Community Development Corporation is to improve the economic and social well-being of the Woodlawn community, with an emphasis on low-income residents, by empowering them through education, advocacy and innovation.  Additional partners include:

  • The City of Pawtucket
  • New England Institute of Technology
  • Tides Family Services
  • Family Resources Community Action
  • Pawtucket Red Sox
  • Project RIRAL
  • Blackstone Valley Community Health Center
  • CVS Corporation
  • National Retail Federation

Eliminating Barriers to Services

Transportation has always been one of the major barriers for youth. To ensure full integration and maximum exposure to all the programs and services offered at our Learn to Earn locations we will provide transportation for youth in the program to our various sites.

A youth participating in the Pawtucket Youth Center may be interested in a leadership development group being offered at the Warwick Skills Center or may want to enroll in the CVS Pharmacy Tech Program at the Providence Skills Center or would like to join a group visiting one of the local colleges.

Having in house transportation will allow us greater flexibility in getting youth to these services. On site transportation removes a major barrier and reduces costs by not having to duplicate programs at each facility. It is much more cost effective to bring youth to existing services. Transportation will also allow youth to have access to many more services in CCAP's provider network.
