CCAP's Learn to Earn Program is one of Rhode Island's largest and most successful GED and Jobs program for young adults. We work with young adults ages 16 and over who have not completed high school and need to improve their educational and job skills. To meet the increased demand for services, we are adding two new locations that will serve youth.

With funding from WPGRI and in partnership with the City of Warwick and Westbay Community Action we will be opening a second Skills Center in the City of Warwick. The Warwick Skills Center, located at 3027 West Shore Rd, will open in September and will offer comprehensive educational and vocational programs as well as on-site training to become certified as a CVS One Hour Photo Tech.

To better meet the needs of young adults in Providence and Cranston CCAP has recently opened a Youth Center at the Providence/Cranston One Stop.

In partnership with Workforce Solutions of Providence/Cranston and the RI Department of Labor and Training, CCAP is pleased to announce the opening of a new comprehensive outreach, recruitment, assessment and referral program for all Providence and Cranston youths ages 14 - 21.

The program will be a central outreach, intake and assessment point for all young adults who may be interested in participating in any Workforce Solutions of Providence/Cranston or RI Department of Labor programs and services.

There are a variety of educational and workforce development programs for youth in the cities of Providence and Cranston. The Learn to Earn staff can help young adults find the program that best fits their needs. Since opening on July 5th, the Youth Center has already served 50 young adults.

CCAP's Learn to Earn Program

A Great Investment In Youth

Research has shown that the short and long term benefits of adult education programs combined with workforce development exceed their initial costs to the public.

As a comprehensive education and job training program, CCAP's Learn to Earn Program is a great investment. In 2004 the Learn to Earn Program helped 17 youth get their GED. In 2005 this number increased to 49.

Since beginning in 2003, CCAP's Learn to Earn Program has met or exceeded all WIA performance outcomes for younger and older youth.

Our accomplishments for this year include:

  • Over 1,500 TABE tests (Test of Adult Basic Education) were administered
  • 60 students received their GED
  • We developed an on-site pre GED class
  • 20 graduates completed the CVS pharmacy Tech class and are now employed at CVS
  • The average daily attendance at the Providence Skills Center is 145 students
  • 15 graduates have been accepted at CCRI for fall admission ~ all on full scholarships!
  • Met all performance benchmarks for our WSPC, WPGRI and RIDE programs.
  • 35 graduates are employed
  • 2 have enlisted in the RI National Guard
  • Hired a Job Developer
  • Program Case Managers completed the Feinstein Mentoring Coordinators Program
  • Learn to Earn staff are certified in the RIDE CALIS reporting system
  • Developed a computer lab with state of the art GED computer software, job acquisition and retention software complete with diagnostics
  • Created 3 new TV spots that results in an average of 300 calls per month
  • Developed relationship with DCYF for direct referrals
  • With the opening of the Warwick site in 2007 we expect over 100 youth will gain their GED

A great return on investment!

Based on the average increase in annual earnings, collectively our 131 graduates have the potential to be making $1,266,901 more per year. In addition to increased lifetime earnings, youth who earn a GED and return to the workforce have less reliance of government social welfare programs and have improved social skills and competencies.

CCAP's Learn to Earn Program can help you get your life back on track. We offer a variety of services including pre-GED, GED, workshops on improving your social and job skills and on-site specialized job training through CVS Pharmacy and the National Retail Federation that leads to certification and good paying employment.

CCAP's Learn to Earn Program is funded by Workforce Partnership of Greater RI, Workforce Solutions of Providence/Cranston and the RI Department of Education.
