Senior Community Services Employment Program

Are you age 55 and older and looking to re-enter the workforce but need to improve your job skills?

CCAP operates a Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP), funded by the RI Department of Elderly Affairs under Title V of the Older Americans Act, serves persons with low incomes who are 55 years old or over.

The program has two goals: to provide useful community services and to foster individual economic self sufficiency through training and job placement in unsubsidized jobs. Seniors are placed in a wide variety of community service activities at non-profit and public facilities.

Services provided include:

  • up to 20 hours a week of part-time employment in community service assignments, usually non-profit organizations
  • job training and related educational opportunities
  • opportunities for placement into unsubsidized employment

To qualify for the program, you must:

  • Be 55 years of age or older, and a resident of Rhode Island
  • Have an annual family income that must not be more than 125% of the established federal poverty guidelines.
  • Be eligible to work in the United States.

More about the program

SCSEP enrollees are paid the prevailing Federal or State minimum wage whichever is higher. Currently in Rhode Island that wage is $7.40 per hour.

Enrollees are paid bi-weekly (less appropriate taxes) and participants must have a social security number. A savings or checking account may be required as well as a bank account if pay is distributed by electronic transfer. The program does not authorize or pay for overtime.

The Senior Community Services Employment Program is just one of CCAP's programs and services for seniors that help them lead healthy productive lives.

We offer a variety of services including health and dental care at one of our three health centers, pharmaceutical assistance, emergency food, mental heath counseling, case management and information and referral. Each year over 3,000 seniors come to CCAP for one or more of our services.
