·         ALTERNATIVES ADOLESCENT SELF-SUFFICIENCY COLLABORATIVE

Provides teenage parents and pregnant individuals with intervention, counseling, educational support and ancillary social services. Parenting skills and other relevant workshops are held on a regular basis. A major goal of this program is to help young parents remain in school or a vocational training program.The Adolescent Parenting program operates home and school based projects in Cranston, Coventry, East Greenwich and Exeter/West Greenwich.

 

·         ANGER MANAGEMENT FOR TEENS

CCAP offers two different groups for teens who have difficulty managing their anger.  There is a four-week psycho-educational group and an eight-week clinical treatment group.  Groups meet in Cranston and Coventry.

·         CATASTROPHE FUND

This is a donation based fund to alleviate crisis situations for individuals and families in the CCAP service area.  This fund is used to assist families when no other resources are available.  Funds may be used for a variety of purposes.

 

·         COMPREHENSIVE EMERGENCY SERVICES (CES)

A short-term (60 day), home based intervention program for families with children from birth to age 18. Services include 24 hour emergency intake, parent aides, emergency foster family homes, emergency day care, case management services, parent education and advocacy and counseling. The catchment area for CES includes Cranston, Johnston, North Providence, Scituate, Foster, Smithfield and Glocester.

 

·         Discharge PlannING (Statewide)

This program funded by the RI Department of Corrections helps minimum security male and female inmates' transition  back to home and community.  Case Workers help inmates design discharge plans ninety days prior to their release and provide follow up services for sixty days from discharge.  Services include assessment, information and referral, support groups and advocacy.  In addition we provide supervised parent-child visitations and parent education in Men’s and Women’s facilities and are working with the Family Life Center to provide clinical services to inmates who have been sexually assaulted.

·         EMERGENCY SOCIAL SERVICES

This program provides of range of emergency services including food, shelter, clothing and furniture. Emergency food and shelter is available for families/individuals in crisis situations.  The Emergency Food program also distributes food through the RI Temporary Emergency Food Program (TEFAP) as well as holiday baskets for needy families.

 

·         HEAD START AND DAY CARE

 

Child care programs accommodate children from three to five years of age of low income and/or working parents. Services include education, socialization, nutrition, health, transportation and social services. A certified teaching staff assisted by experienced teacher aides, work together to provide a sound day care program responsive to the needs of children.  Head Start has home and center based programs.  Head Start is free and Day Care fees are based on a sliding scale. The Head Start and Day Care programs are available for Cranston residents only.

Affordable Child Care

 

·         HOUSING ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS

This program provides affordable housing to individuals and families. The program goal is to identify and develop existing and new housing stock into affordable rental/owner occupied units.  The agency currently co-owns Cranston Commons East, a nineteen unit housing development on Elmwood Avenue and two multiple family homes in the Arlington area.   The agency also operates the DHS Emergency Housing Assistance Program (EHAP).  This program provides financial assistance to families facing eviction or foreclosure.

 

·         THE INCREDIBLE YEARS

The Incredible Years Training Series (SAMSHA Model Program) includes parent skills training and classroom-based child training programs.  These program components are designed to promote emotional and social competence and to prevent aggressive, defiant, oppositional and impulsive behavior in young children 2 to 7 years old.  This is critical since young children with high rates of aggressive behavioral problems, especially those developing within poverty contexts, have been shown to be at great risk for developing later substance problems, becoming involved with deviant peer groups dropping out of school, and engaging delinquency and violence.  CCAP is working with Bradley Hospital’s Early Childhood Clinical Research Center (ECCRC) to implement and evaluate the effectiveness of this program.

·         Learn to earn programs

CCAP operates three job training and educational programs for out of school youth and young adults.  The Providence/Cranston WDO program serves Out-of-School Youth ages 16 - 18.  The overall goal of the program is to recruit youngsters that have dropped out of school and do not have the skills needed for employment.  All participants will receive academic enrichment, classroom training and hands on work experiences.  In addition, all participants will receive case management and counseling services based on an initial objective assessment and an Individual Service Strategy plan.  The overall goal of the program is to strengthen the participant’s academic and career skills, identify and remove barriers to employment so that he/she is better prepared to enter the workforce or seek additional training.

 

The GRI WDO program will be open to eligible youth living in all RI communities except Providence and Cranston.  The program will target youth between the ages 19 and 21.  The overall goal of the program is to recruit youngsters that have dropped out of school and do not have the academic/social/life skills needed for mployment.  The program design is built on engaging hard to reach youth by providing them with academic classroom instruction and hands on work experiences using computer-based learning that is meaningful and relevant.  We are working with CVS Corporation to implement a Pharmacy Tech and Customer Service Training program using a mock CVS store.

 

The RI Department of Education program will enroll 20 young adults age 18 and over in a program to acquire their GED, secure job training, be placed in jobs or enter a higher education program.  Youth can also participate in the CVS training programs.  While the focus will be on adults living in Cranston and Providence, the program is open to all eligible adults statewide.

The purpose of the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is to assist low income Rhode Island households to meet the increasing cost of home energy and reduce the severity of energy related crises.

 

·         New Opportunity Homes (NOH) ( Statewide)

This program provide voluntary residential placement for pregnant and/or parenting teens that cannot live in their family homes due to high risk situations.  NOH afford young parents and their children the opportunity to live in a safe and nurturing home like setting.  NOH facilities are located in Providence (Urban League), Johnston (Tri-Town CAP) , Pawtucket (BVCAP) and Newport (Family Services) CCAP operates Bradford House in Cranston, a twenty-four hour, year round residence. 

 

·         Parent Education Program (Statewide)

The Parent Education Program is a statewide, on-going 8 session series of workshops administered by members of the RI Community Action Association.  Trained facilitators conduct workshops that offer information on strategies and skills necessary to provide a safe and nurturing environment for children.  This program is approved by the RI DCYF, fees are on a sliding scale with waiver of fees available.

·         Parenting Wisely PROgrams

The Parenting Wisely programs (SAMSHA Model Programs) are funded by MHRH’s Division of Behavioral Healthcare Services. Case Mangers work with youth and families referred from schools, police departments, churches, Juvenile Hearing Boards, Truancy Courts and other community based organizations in Warwick, West Warwick, East Greenwich, Cranston and Coventry. Parenting Wisely is designed to help teens and their families find better ways of relating. Parenting Wisely is proven effective in: Improving Family Communication, Increasing Parental Supervision, Improving Discipline and reducing the likelihood of substance abuse.

·         P/C Kids a Comprehensive Child Care Services Network

Providence/Cranston Kids (P/C Kids) is one of CCAP's Child Development Center's Head Start and Day Care programs.  A collaborative of Head Start, schools, child care provides and community agencies providing Head Start like services to children and families living in Cranston and Providence.

 

·         REACh

The REACh program is a federally funded research grant targeting the elderly population. Its purpose is to determine the effects of case management and energy education on the utility bills of 43 low income clients at each CAP. AMP and WAP are part of the energy education/services and are offered at priority to REACh clients. The REACh case manager serves as a person to call when resources or referrals for other services are needed.

 

·         RI PHARMACEUTICAL ASSISTANCE TO THE ELDERLY

This is a co-payment program that covers approximately 60% of the cost of certain prescriptions for residents 65 and older.  Under current guidelines, RIPAE covers certain medications used to treat diabetes (including insulin syringes), high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart problems, Parkinson's disease, glaucoma, and cancer.

 

·         RI State Training School Substance Abuse Treatment & Eduation

The program will offer ATOD education, preventative and individual and group counseling treatment to male and female residents.  All programs and services are developmentally and culturally appropriate and are designed to engage hard to reach youth.  Gender specific programming will be provided to female residents.  All programs and

services are based on best practice research from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s Center for Substance Abuse Treatment as well as other current research in the identification, assessment and treatment of adolescent with substance abuse problems. 

 

·         SENIOR COMMUNITY SERVICES EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM

The Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP), funded by RI DEA, serves persons with low incomes who are 55 years old or over and has poor employment prospects.  The program has two  goals: to provide useful community services and to foster individual economic self sufficiency through training and job placement in unsubsidized jobs. Services provided include: up to 20 hours a week of part-time employment in community service assignments, usually non-profits and faith-based organizations, job training and related educational opportunities, opportunities for placement into unsubsidized jobs.

·         SEXUAL ABUSE COUNSELING SERVICES (Statewide)

Provides specialized evaluation and counseling services to victims of sexual abuse and other trauma.  The program also serves non-offending parents and siblings. Services include assessment, individual & group counseling and community education workshops.

The VOCA Program assists persons or families who are victims of violent crime by providing clinical case management services.  Services include home visitation, crisis intervention, consultation, counseling and information and referral.

·          WEATHERIZATION/AMP

The Weatherization Assistance Program enables low-income families to permanently reduce their energy bills by making their homes more energy efficient.  The AMP program is one in which the auditor goes into the home of a client and, by use of a computer program, examines the usage of electricity in the home and where it is being wasted or over used. AMP replaces light bulbs with energy efficient bulbs, and meters the client’s refrigerator to determine its efficiency. If the refrigerator is not efficient, it is replaced with an Energy Star refrigerator. This is in keeping with a government effort to reduce electric usage to conserve our country’s waning resources

  

·         WOMEN, INFANTS AND CHILDREN SUPPLEMENTAL NUTRITION PROGRAM (WIC)

        The WIC program provides pregnant, postpartum and breast feeding women and children under the age of five with food vouchers allowing them to purchase milk, eggs, cheese, juice and iron fortified cereals and formula. The WIC Coordinator provides nutrition education and counseling to all program participants on a monthly basis. WIC services are located adjacent to our Family Health Services facilities in Cranston and Coventry.

·         Women's Cancer Screening Program

The Rhode Island Women's Cancer Screening Program provides no-cost pelvic exams, Pap tests, clinical breast exams, and mammograms (breast x-rays) to eligible women in the State. The program also covers diagnostic tests, methods used to identify diseases. The goal of the program is to identify women with precancerous breast or cervical conditions or cancer during the early stages. Eligible women who are under age 65, enrolled, screened, and diagnosed through the program with a precancerous condition or a diagnosis of cancer of the breast or cervix may apply for Medical Assistance to cover the cost of treatment.

·         YOUTH DIVERSIONARY PROJECT (YDP)

A short term (90 day), home based treatment program for families with youngsters ages 9 - 17 that are at risk for involvement in the Juvenile Justice System. Referrals are accepted from Family Court, Police Departments, DCYF, schools, social service agencies and family members. Services include counseling, parent education, referral and advocacy YDP serves the communities of Cranston, Johnston, Scituate, Foster, Glocester, North Providence, Smithfield, Providence, North Smithfield, and Burrillville. 

 

·         Youth Responsibility Program

A Case Management program for young fathers and teens up to the age of 20 that may be at risk. The program provides education on paternity, child support, parenting/life skills, character development and pregnancy prevention.  It also assists teens in getting their high school diploma or GED.  The program is open to teens in Cranston, Coventry, Scituate, Foster, Exeter, West Greenwich, Warwick and West Warwick.
